The training weekend held recently in Hobart was a great success. After general ringing on Friday evening we spent Saturday focusing on minor methods, the aim being to push our newer members beyond Plain Bob into St. Clement's, Double Oxford and - we hoped - perhaps a lead or two of Cambridge to finish. In the end we exceeded our own expectations, with plain courses of Cambridge being rung. On Sunday we turned our attention to eight and ten bells, managing some confidently-struck plain hunt caters for Sunday service. In the afternoon we were back in the tower ringing some minor for Molly (who was unable to attend on Saturday) and more triples and major. A quarter peal of Plain Bob Triples was rung to finish.

We made full use of the skills of Richard and Callum from Perth and James and Caroline from Sydney. Having enough ringers for people to stand behind others and for the students to take turns is a rare treat for an isolated band such as ours. That and the extra "rope hours" that the weekend provided created the perfect conditions for a successful event.
