Adelaide 50th Anniversary Peal

On Wednesday 20th February 2013 a peal of Grandsire Triples was rung at St Peter's Cathedral Adelaide, 50 years to the day after the first peal on the bells, also Grandsire Triples.

Making the peal especially memorable was the repeat performances of two of the band, David Bleby and Enid Roberts, who were both in the original peal, although they both rang further around the front this time around, proving that 50 years has made them not only older but wiser also.

The band consisted of David Bleby and Enid Roberts, both members of the original band, Bill Perrins, expertly calling yet another peal, Matthew Sorell, ringing the tenor seemingly with ease, Ian Harris, a former Captain at St Peter's who flew in from Perth, Chris and Ruth Stokes, frequent visitors to Adelaide from the UK, and Matthew Ball. With very few trips and good ringing it was a lovely peal, receiving much acclaim from the local residents and positive feedback from the media.

As is customary, we then proceeded to the Queen's Head to re-hydrate with a well earned beer or two. Now we just have to start planning the centenary peal in 2063 :-)

Sounds

The following recordings were made on New Years Eve 2000 and New Years Day 2001. The recordings were made in the sound chamber.

All sounds are recorded by the ringers and may be freely distributed. If distributed, it would be nice if it was mentioned that the recording was of St Peter's Cathedral, Adelaide, South Australia.

This page supplements the ANZAB Tower Directory, and records further information about the tower, its bells and ringers.

Some of this has been provided by local ringers, but most is historical and has been gathered by the ANZAB Webmaster since 2002.

Tower officers are encouraged to submit material for inclusion on this page, or suggest changes to its content.
