The first quarter on the bells was rung on 26 April, and they will be available for general ringing at the VicANZAB Branch Practice on 14 June 2015.

The old Burnley Bells

You may have seen the circular released by the St Batholomew's Church effectively seeking a good home for these bells.  The Church had originally planned to donate these bells to six different churches in a third-world country, but this relied on an offer of free transport that has since fallen through, so they are now unexpectedly in the situation of seeking alternatives.

The Church is indisputably the owner of the bells and can do whatever it likes with them.  However ANZAB is in discussion with them about this. Given that they have gone for a sort of tender process, seeking offers, it would not be wise for us to publish exactly what our suggestions are, nor can we be certain what the Church's eventual decision will be. However, some ANZAB members are planning an offer (using private funds) which, if successful, would make the bells available on a non-profit basis for use in Australia or NZ. For more information, contact

Burnley Bells Consecrated

The new bells for St Bartholomew's, Burnley, were consecrated at a special service on Sunday, 24 August 2014.

Christening of the Burnley bells

David Pacey reports:

It all went very well. The bells were christened, anointed and censed by the Primate and Archbishop of Melbourne with much good music, pomp and ceremony. You will note the guardian owl sitting next to the No 5 bell which is named "St Jennifer" - the bell not the owl! There were a number of ANZAB members present including the hand bell band. Matthew Sorell read the first lesson.

Old Burnley bells ring for the last time

Sunday, 4 May 2014, was the last service ringing before the tower at St Bartholomew's is closed for removal of the bells and dismantling of the frame. The newly cast bells from Whitechapel are set to arrive later in the year and will form part of the Jenny Murphy memorial.

Here are the ringers who rang the bells out!

This page supplements the ANZAB Tower Directory, and records further information about the tower, its bells and ringers.

Some of this has been provided by local ringers, but most is historical and has been gathered by the ANZAB Webmaster since 2002.
