Tower and Bells Report from NSW

Richmond Ringing

Being built in 1842 the Heritage requirements have been strict and checked throughout the application and construction process. Over the last year there have been three test rings leading to plenty of adjustments and improvements.

Finally the first Development Application is complete and general ringing is now allowed with open ringing allowed between 8am and 6pm open, and ringing with the sound control closed allowed between 6pm and 10pm.

Another DA is being lodged to replace the window that had been installed in the belfry at some stage. Work has started on additional sound control between the belfry and ringing room.

There is an active bee nest in the top of the tower. If you know anyone who could help remove them give me a buzz!

St Canice Katoomba Aiming to Ring for Easter

The 5 bells for St Canice's (Catholic) Church, Katoomba were blessed on Sunday 1st February and installed in the tower the same day. The installation of the fittings is a non-trivial task given the very compact tower. I expect the project to be completed by Easter.

There are a good number of interested learners, although we're yet to identify the best strategy and period when teaching will commence.

Other Towers in the Pipeline

The recent NSW/ACT Branch AGM heard that there is still interest in having bells from Balmain, Bexley, Eastwood and Chatswood. Balmain has just received council approval. The next step for Balmain is setting up a fund-raising committee.
